A WEST Cornwall attraction is celebrating after winning silver at the recent South West Tourism Awards.

Geevor Tin Mine in Pendeen received second prize in the Small Visitor Attraction category at the ceremony held in Plymouth on January 31.

This follows a successful year for the attraction, which also picked up a double gold and a silver at the Cornwall Tourism Awards last year.

Sarah Nicholas, marketing and PR manager at Geevor, said: "The silver award is a fantastic achievement for the hardworking staff, trustees and volunteers at the mine.

"To have all the effort and continued support for Geevor recognised in such a way is a great honour."

The stated aim of the tin mine, which is managed by Pendeen Community Heritage and employs 22 staff, is to conserve the heritage of Geevor, use the site for education purposes and create sustainable employment.

Geevor Tin Mine staff are now waiting to find out if the attraction will scoop another prize at the national awards later this year.
