THE captain of England's 1980 Grand Slam-winning rugby team will be the guest speaker at a black-tie dinner evening at the Cornish Pirates Rugby Club on Saturday, March 1.
Chairman of the RFU and the longest-serving team captain on the BBC quiz A Question Of Sport, Bill Beaumont will be the star turn at an evening organised by the Friends of Cornish Rugby, who promote the game in Cornwall and support seafarers' charities.
As well as a three-course meal, diners will enjoy a raffle, with prizes including one-on-one coaching sessions with the Cornish Pirates, and an auction with lots including an £8,000 holiday in Africa from Hemmingway's and a signed England Rugby shirt.
Compère will be former Pirate and BBC presenter Andy Birkett and tickets are £45 a head (£40 for club sponsors, committed shareholders and season ticket-holders). The dress code is black tie and posh frocks; guests will be seated in tables of ten. Proceeds go to the Cornish Pirates and the RNLI.
