IMPROVED safety measures are to be installed at a Hayle school crossing which has been branded an "accident waiting to happen".

Bodriggy Academy was looking for a way to make the school crossing safer after several motorists failed to stop for the lollipop lady.

Located on a corner after a bridge, it is hard to see and many drivers are unaware that schoolchildren are crossing.

To help warn drivers, Cornwall Council has agreed to have flashing lights installed.

Cornwall councillor for Hayle South, John Coombe, said: "It's a very dangerous crossing. It will make it much safer. I want to thank Cornwall Highways for doing it."

Mr Coombe said he believed three sets of crossing lights would be installed in May.

After branding the crossing an "accident waiting to happen", head teacher David May, welcomed the new measures.

Judging by the red arrows quite a few think it's OK to ignore lollipop ladies.

How much did this cost, it seems to cost £50,000 to move an zebra crossing.

The fact that several motorists did not stop for the lollipop lady is an indictment of the drivers and not the crossing.
