PENZANCE Swimming Club returned as bronze medalists after the Cornwall Junior Inter Club Gala at the Dragon Leisure Centre in Bodmin.

The gala is for junior swimmers aged 12 years and under. Penzance compete in division one and finished in third place behind local rivals St Ives Bay and runners-up Truro.

A club spokesman said: "Some of our swimmers have only just turned nine years of age and were a credit to the young team. Each swimmer was presented with a bronze medal."

The gala consisted of individual 50 metre sprints in each age group plus freestyle and medley relays.

One of the highlights of the competition was the Canon Relay where two swimmers from each age group competed.
