A ROAD which has been labelled a "race track" by residents in Sancreed could have a 20mph speed limit imposed upon it.

The Lower Grumbla to Sancreed Road, popularly known as Butts Road, is unrestricted meaning vehicles can travel up to 60mph on it.

Residents in the nearby Beacon Estate, whose children often play on the adjacent greens, have campaigned for the past decade to get a speed limit introduced.

And they were left celebrating last week when CORMAC, who deal with speed restrictions on behalf of Cornwall Council, announced a 20mph or 30mph limit would be put in place by January 2013.

Peter Robinson, 71, has lived at Beacon Estate for the past 30 years and said residents were pleased to hear a limit will be introduced but are hoping it is 20mph: "Some cars travel through at 50 or 60 mph, really speeding. Buses and non-local tractors speed as well."

Jason Hoole-Jackson, from CORMAC, is due to meet with Sancreed Parish Council next week to determine what the new speed limit will be.

He explained his wish to impose a 20mph limit might not happen due to the number of surrounding properties.

Cornwall councillor for Sancreed, Bill Maddern will fund the reduction through his community allowance and said he hoped the new limit would be 20mph.

How do they plan to keep traffic to 20MPH or 30MPH, they will have to put in Speed Cushions and maybe other Speed Calming measures, by just putting up new speed limit signs will not slow down the traffic, the Police do not have enough resources to enforce the Speed limits on the roads now !!!! Just look at the Village of Sennen, we have a 30MPH speed limit, with speed cushions, a round a bout was put in to slow vehicles down, well i can assure none of this has worked vehicles still speed through the village past the primary school, many cars are well over the speed limit, i suspect travelling at 50MPH or more !!!!
