MEMBERS of a Penwith Rotary club have been praised for their dedication to the local community.

The Rotary Club of Mounts Bay handed out accolades to a number of members, as it saw the presidency pass from Lesley Michell to Pete Johnson.

The Paul Harris Fellowship, the highest award given to Rotarians, was presented to Jim Blain and to husband and wife Ed and Donnette Bufton for exceptional service to the organisation and communities both at home and abroad.

Fellow member Dave Gregory received recognition from District 1290, which covers the whole of Cornwall and south Devon, when he was given the Service Above Self award for two decades of dedicated work, including setting up a memory café in Penzance to support dementia sufferers.

The Rotarian of the Year Shield was presented to George Hawken for his work as membership secretary as well as his success in attracting nine new people to join the group in the past year.
