AN INADEQUATE recycling service has left part of Rosudgeon looking like a mess, residents have claimed.

Dave Hill, who has lived in the village for decades, said there was a problem with the recycling facility opposite the Falmouth Packet on the A394.

Mr Hill said the problems started earlier this year when Cornwall Council changed its waste and recycling contract to Cory Environmental.

He said there had been numerous occasions when piles of recycling and other waste had built up on the ground.

"Since Cory took over there has been no big cardboard container so people have just left their boxes and whatever up there," he said.

But despite the issues raised by local residents, a spokeswoman for Cornwall Council said the recycling banks were emptied weekly and the area was cleaned up most days.

Mr Hill, who lives in the village, took a photo recently of the recycling but says it has since been cleared.

"I have repeatedly e-mailed the council about the state of the recycling facility opposite the Falmouth Packet pub, Rosudgeon," he said.

"They have not provided a bulk cardboard container for some months and the other containers are not emptied frequently enough. I took the photo and it has since taken two Cory pick-ups to clear the rubbish."

Landlord of the Falmouth Packet, Matthew Rowe, is also frustrated by the mess.

"We do get regular customers coming in and complaining about it all the time," he said.

"It is just a mess. It is right opposite the pub and we can't help but look at it every day."

A spokeswoman for Cornwall Council added: "There appears to be an issue with fly-tipping at this site which we are investigating."
