THREE students from Nancledra School were not only able to "Give It Their Best Shot", they also picked up two trophies at a public speaking competition.

The trio, winners of the Penzance area heat of the Rotary Youth Speaks competition, are off to the district final against teams from the whole of Cornwall and South Devon after winning the regional final in Falmouth.

Speaking on "Give It Their Best Shot", Nancledra not only won the team prize but Toby Davies was named as the competition's best speaker.

Toby was ably supported by team chairman Josh Osborne and Megan Thomas, who gave the vote of thanks.

Two other teams from the Penzance area final – Crowan Primary School and Team 1 from Penpol CP School – also competed in the district final.

The team was sponsored by Alun Howells from The Rotary Club of Mount's Bay and a Rotary spokesman said: "All the entrants are to be congratulated on taking up the challenge from Nancledra to "Give It Their Best Shot".

"The standard of this competition is very high and at the final the children had to face more than 250 strangers to deliver their speeches. They are all stars and will go far."
