BIKES are continuing to be targeted by thieves, despite police advising owners to make their property more secure.

Last week, The Cornishman reported that nine bikes had been stolen since the start of August, mainly from the Morrab Road and Alexandra Road area of Penzance.

The police have received reports of another bike being stolen from Alverton Road on the evening of August 20 and a further three bikes being taken from a secure lock-up on Marine Terrace earlier in the month.

Inspector Jean Phillips, of Penzance police, urges bike-owners to keep bikes in a secure shed or garage if possible and chain it to an immovable object.

She also reminds people that the last of three, free bike-marking sessions takes place today at the police station from 2pm to 4pm. If you have information about the thefts, call the police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
