A HAYLE bride who was part of last year's Olympic Torch Relay was given a surprise on her big day- by a special Olympic guard of honour.
Amy Collins, who carried the torch through Rosudgeon in the Cornish leg of the torch relay, was surprised after her fellow torchbearers turned up at the church, giving her an exit to remember.
The five torchbearers, some of whom shared a bus on last year's relay, held their Olympic torches in an arch for the newly-weds to walk under upon leaving the service at St Uny Church in Lelant.
Emerging from the church, the newly-wed Mrs Collins was in tears as she was confronted with her fellow torchbearers complete in their Olympic 2012 tracksuits.
She said: "I can't believe it, I really really can't. We were on the same bus last year. The relay went by too quick, just like today. It's such a lovely surprise."
Torchbearers Bernard Lee, Jeremy Parry, Marie Wilton, Mandy Hiscock and Garvey Evans all met outside the church in secret, ready to surprise the couple.
Several of them had met earlier in the year at a reunion in Land's End, which is when they heard that Amy was to get married on Wednesday, October 2.
Bernard Lee from Camborne who took part last summer, came up with the idea to surprise Amy and her husband Adam.
He said it went better than he could have hoped.
"Amy is such a lovely person. I only met her that one day, but she left such an impression on me.
"It's not been done as far as I know. I just wanted to make her special day that bit more special."
The couple posed with the Olympic torchbearers outside the church.
