Mousehole 6, Bude Town 1

MOUSEHOLE moved to within a point of league leaders Sticker after this crushing home victory over second from bottom Bude at Trungle Parc on Saturday.

The Seagulls got off to a flying start with three goals inside the opening ten minutes as Wade Brown struck twice either side of a neat half-volley from assistant manager Matt Shiels.

Although Scott Vercy reduced the arrears in the 20th minute when he rounded home keeper Dexter King to roll the ball into the empty net, the Seagulls responded with the goal of the game on the half-hour, courtesy of a stunning 25-yard strike from Steve Burt which gave the Bude keeper no chance.

Mousehole had to wait until 20 minutes from time to add to their tally when an Owain Barrett free kick was headed in at the back post by skipper Mark Vercesi.

And it was Vercesi who rounded off the scoring ten minutes from time with a smart left-foot finish from substitute Karl Turner's through ball.

It was Mousehole's eight consecutive league victory which sets up a mouth watering top of the table clash this Saturday at leaders Sticker (3pm).

Mousehole: D King; M Trevail, C Russell, W Quinn, O Barrett, M Davies, S Burt, N Pugliese, M Shiels, W Brown. Subs: M Moon (for Davies), J Robinson (for Barrett), K Turner (for Trevail).

Elsewhere, Helston Athletic returned to winning ways in style on Saturday as they crushed St Dennis 6-1 at Boscawen Park.

The Blues, after four consecutive defeats, responded emphatically to silence their doubters after what has so far been a disappointing start to the season.

Goals from Ashley Stidwell, Charlie Young, Ben Stidwell, Dan Stidwell, Jamie Thirkle and Mark Goldsworthy sealed an impressive win for Helston at the weekend.

Manager Sid Taylor will now hope Saturday's result can kickstart the Blues' campaign as they look to close the gap on the division's leading teams.

They are now 13 points behind leaders Sticker, who slipped to their defeat of the season against Callington, though they do have three games in hand ahead of Saturday's visit of Perranporth.

Penzance, who were without a game last weekend, return to SWPL action away to Plymouth side Vospers Oak Villa on Saturday (3pm).

The draw has been made for the first round of the Cornwall Charity Cup, with ties to be played on Saturday, November 2.

Draw: Dobwalls v Penryn Athletic; Foxhole Stars v Truro City; Helston Athletic v Bude Town; Mousehole v Millbrook; Perranporth v Penzance; St Dennis v Callington Town; Sticker v Porthleven; Wadebridge Town v Illogan.
