DRINK-RELATED incidents kept police busy on Saturday night.

Extra police officers were brought in for Mazey Day with staff from St Ives, Camborne and the Bodmin-based Force Support Group all patrolling the streets.

Inspector Jean Phillips said police dealt with more incidents than they would on a usual Saturday night but numbers were similar to previous years.

"It was comparable to any other Mazey Day where we do have an increase in incidents," she said.

"It was fairly trouble free but with these kind of events we get an increase in alcohol consumption so later in the evening of Mazey Day we had drink-related incidents."

Among them were an assault in Market Jew Street with a man taken to hospital suffering from leg injuries.

There was also a similar attack leaving a victim with leg injuries outside Sound nightclub.

There were two other assaults, one in Wharf Road and the other in Causewayhead, where a man was accused of hitting a woman.

In both incidents no further action was taken.

A woman was cautioned for being drunk and disorderly and a 24- year-old was also spoken to after being found with a small amount of cannabis resin.
