Toploader, Hall For Cornwall
Review by Michaela McConville
BEING AN avid fan of Toploader and with Dancing In The Moonlight my all time favourite tune (and designated funeral song) – reminding me of many happy journeys with my then small children, singing loudly in the car, I was surprised to see the Hall For Cornwall only a quarter full.
This turned into a superb advantage as the audience was brought closer together in a cosy semi-circle, all gathered clapping, swaying, singing and dancing to our hearts content, to new and memorable Toploader classics. The support act for the first half hour was McMahon, an acoustic Irish singer-songwriter who reminded me slightly of Ben Howard. Toploader started off with a blast of Achilles Heel, Let The People Know, Dancing In The Moonlight, Just Hold On and new material such as This Is The Night. Singer Joe Washbourn has lost neither his presence or voice and being the second night of the tour, the band were in full swing, truly fantastic, not a note out of place and had everyone on their feet within a couple of songs. You can see why this band has sold over two million albums.
They will be returning to Cornwall on June 6, at the Watering Hole, Perranporth – I truly recommend seeing them.
