St Ives 10, Porthleven 0

SIX goals from Jowan May helped St Ives cruise to an emphatic victory and maintained the Saints' unbeaten start to the season, writes Scott Haley.

It was only 2-0 at half-time, but it was always going to be an uphill struggle for a Port side who only had ten players available due to first team commitments.

Saints' manager Sky Allen was delighted with his team's performance, but credited Porthleven for giving 100% until the end.

He said: "Whether they had ten men or not, we can only beat whoever is in front of us and we did that.

"Credit to Porthleven because they kept going until the final whistle but we pushed forward in the second half and we were just too much for them."

St Ives controlled the majority of the match and were rewarded after 15 minutes when Curtis Richards sent a pinpoint ball into the box which found the head of Ian Hodges who couldn't miss from six yards.

Porthleven were working hard, and the home side had to be patient in the first half knowing chances would eventually come once the away side tired.

Joel McWilliams made it 2-0 two minutes before half-time when he broke the offside trap and unselfishly squared to May who tapped home for his first of the afternoon.

Early in the second half both May and McWilliams were denied by two point blank saves from Port keeper Sam Freeman before Martyn Moon prodded home from six yards to make it 3-0.

Three minutes later it was four when May buried a left footed shot into the bottom corner after a great run down the left.

Another driving run down the left from May saw him find McWilliams who tapped home to make it five, before May sealed his hat-trick slotting past keeper Freeman in a one-on-one.

Two more from May shortly after made it eight, before McWilliams scored the Saints' ninth of the afternoon albeit with a deflection off Porthleven defender Scott Toy.

May saved the best till last with virtually the last kick of the game, superbly lobbing Martyn Harding's through ball over Freeman from 20 yards.

St Ives may have sported new kit but it was the same old story for the Saints so far this season, who look a force to be reckoned with.

THERE were 58 goals scored in ten matches on Saturday, with St Ives leading the way, knocking in ten without reply at home against Porthleven, writes Paul Smith.

This win beats their previous highest score of 5-2 against Porthleven by some way.

St Agnes' 6-1 win at Wendron was also their biggest winning margin in a league game at Underlane, while Penryn's 3-3 draw at Ludgvan was the highest scoring draw between the sides.
