A PENZANCE man has been named apprentice of the year at a regional awards ceremony.

James Grant scooped the accolade after taking up training with JTL, which provides guidance for the building services engineering sector.

The 22-year-old former Mounts Bay Academy pupil was handed the award after being assessed on his theory and practical knowledge of the industry.

James, an offshore marine management worker, will go on to represent the region along with nine other local winners at JTL's national awards ceremony in February next year.
