SCILLY has the highest life expectancy of any GP practice in Cornwall, where men can expect to live to 85.9 years and women 85.8 years.

But, says a joint strategic needs and assets assessment, by next year a third of Scilly's 2,100 population will be aged 65 years or over.

"This makes the islands home to one of the most rapidly ageing populations in the country," it notes.

Scilly is rated highly in terms of sports participation-top of the SW region according to an Active People survey.

The islands have the highest birth rate in the PCT area and most hip replacements in Cornwall.

The register says there are ten dementia sufferers although some estimates suggest more than 30 sufferers.

Heart attack emergency admissions are among Cornwall's lowest.
