Imprisoned again just days after being freed

A PENZANCE shoplifter has been jailed for taking alcohol and food from a supermarket.

David Seddon could not wait to drink the alcohol and eat the pork pies he had just stolen from Iceland at Wharfside Shopping Centre where he was challenged by a shop assistant who asked him if he was going to pay for what he had taken.

"I don't have any money," he told her before saying he was hungry and wanted to go back to prison where he had three meals a day.

Seddon, 53, of no fixed address in Penzance, pleaded guilty at Truro Magistrates' Court to stealing a bottle of Schnapps, a bottle of wine and two pork pies valued at £14.50 from Iceland on September 22.

Said to have a substantial record, he had finished his last prison sentence just days before this offence.

His solicitor Deborah Von Kohler told the court that while in prison the defendant had detoxed. He kept free of alcohol for four days once out but then started drinking and that led to his shoplifting. Seddon was sent to prison for 21 days.
