ST IVES embark on a revenge mission on Saturday when they travel to Devon to take on fellow Western Counties West strugglers Tavistock at Sandy Park (3pm), writes Dick Straughan.
Both teams are level on 20 points in the league table. with the Hakes 11th and Tavistock one place below, but Rob Elloway's side are still smarting from their defeat at Alexandra Road in September.
In a tight affair, the Hakes spurned several good chances to win before conceding a late converted try. Trailing by seven points as the game moved into added time, skipper Ben Taylor forced his way over the Tavistock line, but the conversion was missed as the visitors held on to win 23-21.
With three wins in their last five outings and some improved performances on the road, St Ives travel well placed to register their first away win against a team who have yet to win at home this season.
Tavistock have only managed a surprise home draw against promotion hopefuls Teignmouth and that was back at the start of October. Since then they have registered a solitary win at Devonport Services in early November, but have lost their last five league games.
Other games affecting the bottom of the table see Bude at home to Ivybridge, Paignton Saxons travel to Torquay Athletic, and both Devonport Services and Wellington away at Burnham-on-Sea and Kingsbridge respectively.
Hayle RFC will be holding a sponsors, supporters and ex-players' buffet lunch before their home Cornwall & Devon League match with Falmouth on Saturday January 11, from 12.30pm. For details e-mail email@example.com
