THE prolonged heavy weather in Scilly has prompted a strong warning from the island council's environment and climate change officer.
David Senior urged a rethink on coastal defences after listing a litany of damage caused on the individual islands by the January storms.
He said: "There is now an urgent need to develop a revised flood risk strategy for Scilly."
There was a strong possibility that climate change impacts "would both increase the severity and frequency of future storms", he said.
The 2014 scheduled Flood Inundation Mapping Project with the Environment Agency would help to provide a sound scientific understanding of expenditure priorities.
