A PREGNANT serial shoplifter has been warned by a district judge that unless she mends her ways she could lose her baby to care services.
Victoria Louise Kati, aged 38, of Morrab Road, Penzance, blamed her offending on "a longstanding, hard-bitten habit of heroin", her solicitor Robin Smith said.
Kati admitted stealing four bottles of champagne worth £140 from the Co-op at St Ives on December 19 and breaching a conditional discharge.
Mr Smith said she had an appalling record and for three or four years had been offending, going to prison and taking drugs in "a sad merry-go-round". She had stolen the champagne to buy prescription drugs illegally, being desperate not to return to using street heroin for her own and the child's sake. She had lately been testing clear of the drug.
District Judge Richard Blake deferred sentencing to March 14 and told Kati to keep interacting with a drug agency.
