A ST IVES lifeboat crew member is to run the London marathon to raise cash for the RNLI.

St Ives-born Ian Timms is a carpenter by trade but he is also a volunteer on the lifeboat crew.

In 2015, the current Mersey class lifeboat The Princess Royal will be replaced by the new Shannon class boat. St Ives Lifeboat Station is currently running a campaign to raise £100,000 towards a launch and recovery vehicle for the new boat.

And on April 13, Ian will play his part. He said: "I am proud to be a member of the St Ives crew and am running in the London Marathon to help with the station's fundraising. I would be grateful of any sponsorship either through my fundraising page: www.justgiving.com/iantimms or by text: to 70070 IANS97 £2 or £5."
