SCHOOLCHILDREN from Hayle and the surrounding area took part in a special Christmas choir service.

St Elwyn's church was full on Friday night as the annual Carols for All concert organised by Churches Together in Hayle took place.

Pupils from Hayle Community, St Piran's, Kehelland Village, Connor Downs and Penpol Schools took part in the service, which raises money for the Hayle Day Care Centre (HDCC).

Margaret Tanner, vice-moderator of Churches Together, said: "It is very important to have school children involved because they are ambassadors of the future. We hope we have sown the seeds for them to carry on the good work."

Hayle Mayor Jayne Ninnes delivered a Christmas message to the audience, while David Raymer, from HDCC, was the guest speaker.

Neil Shepherd, of the Laudate Chamber Choir, stepped in at the last minute to play the organ and had the whole church singing along to some festive classics.

Mrs Tanner added: "As always David Woodger was a great accompanist for the night. Churches Together would like to say a huge thank you to all who took part and contributed in any way to an amazing evening celebrating the birth of Jesus."
