IT'S nearly awards time in Hayle and members of the public are being asked to nominate residents they feel have contributed to the town.

The Mayor's Annual Citizens of the Year and Organisation of the Year awards are coming up and the town council wants you to get involved.

The awards are presented to people who have been recognised as providing a special service, on an honorary basis, or providing merit and value to the community of Hayle.

The winners will be chosen by the mayor and deputy mayor.

Mayor Jayne Ninnes wants to encourage more people to take part.

She said: "These awards are a way for the community to recognise and say thank you to those who help make our town brilliant. We have lots of deserving citizens and organisations in the town and it's wonderful to be able to recognise them and say thank you on behalf of the town."

Categories for the awards include best citizens – one male and one female – young person, organisation and youth organisation.

Only residents in Hayle, including Angarrack and Phillack, are eligible.

People who are employed to provide a service in the community are not eligible and awards can be made posthumously.

Nomination forms can be collected from the town council office.

Completed forms should be made to the mayor of Hayle and should be obtained from the town council office at Hayle Community Centre or by calling 01736 755005.

Completed forms should be submitted to the clerk by April 18.
