YEAR 10 GCSE art and design pupils recently took part in a two-day painting workshop with the renowned artist Mark Spray.

They were taken on a journey out into the landscape of Nanquidno, where they produced sketchbooks of preparation work, explored visual language and were shown how to represent landscape in a visual form which they can use throughout their course.

On the second day the pupils returned to school and produced a final outcome – a large mixed media painting combining the use of soil collected from their 'journey', emulsion and masonry paint. The work, based on the previous day's sketchbook studies, explored composition and surface texture.

Art teacher Mrs Beamish said: "This workshop has been wonderful – a great experience for all who took part, giving pupils the opportunity to work alongside a very successful practising artist."
